TaxProtestTx is a product of Nought Labs LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("we," "us," or "our"). TaxProtestTx is a self-service property tax research and document preparation tool for Texas homeowners. We compile comparable property data from publicly available county appraisal records and generate a protest evidence packet with pre-filled forms for supported counties. You review the data, you decide whether to file a protest, and you file it yourself.
We do not file protests on your behalf, represent you before any appraisal district or Appraisal Review Board (ARB), negotiate on your behalf, or provide legal, tax, appraisal, or professional advice of any kind. TaxProtestTx is not a property tax consultant as defined by Texas Occupations Code Chapter 1152 and does not render property tax consulting services.

TaxProtestTx does not:
The cost segregation feasibility estimator at /cost-seg/ is a federal-tax-concept screening tool. It is not a cost segregation study within the meaning of the IRS Cost Segregation Audit Techniques Guide, an accountant's report, tax advice, return preparation, or a deliverable a taxpayer can attach to a return.
TaxProtestTx (Nought Labs LLC) is not a CPA firm, an enrolled agent, an attorney, an engineering firm, or a tax return preparer under IRC §7701. We do not "practice public accountancy" within the meaning of Texas Occupations Code Chapter 901. The output of the cost-seg estimator is software-generated using simplified heuristics; it is not based on an engineering analysis of your property. It cannot be used to avoid penalties under Treasury Circular 230.
Cost segregation interacts with passive activity loss limitations (IRC §469), real-estate-professional status, depreciation recapture on disposition (IRC §1245/§1250), bonus depreciation rules (IRC §168(k)), the §163(j) interest limitation election, §1031 carryover basis, and AMT. These interactions are not fully modeled in our screening estimate.
Form 3115 / §481(a) catch-up. If our estimate identifies a look-back catch-up adjustment, the filing of Form 3115 (Application for Change in Accounting Method) and the §481(a) adjustment is your responsibility and your tax professional's. We do not prepare or file Form 3115. We do not prepare or file Form 4562. We do not prepare or sign returns.
You must consult a qualified tax professional (CPA, EA, or attorney) before relying on any output of the cost-seg estimator to file a tax return.
We do not guarantee any specific outcome from your protest. Many protests result in no reduction. Results depend entirely on your property, market conditions, and the appraisal district's review — factors that are outside our control. By purchasing, you acknowledge that you may receive no reduction in your appraised value or taxes.
You are responsible for reviewing all data in your evidence packet and exercising your own independent judgment about whether and how to use it. You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of all information before filing. You are responsible for meeting all filing deadlines. TaxProtestTx provides data and pre-filled forms — all decisions about your protest are yours alone.
Any estimated savings figures displayed on our website, in emails, or in your evidence packet are mathematical calculations based on publicly available comparable property data. They represent potential outcomes only and are not a guarantee, warranty, prediction, or promise of any specific result. Actual results may differ significantly, including the possibility of no reduction at all.
We compile property data from public sources including county appraisal district records, ArcGIS mapping services, and MLS sold data. Public records may be incomplete, outdated, or contain errors. We do not guarantee that all data is complete, current, or error-free. Data is compiled at a point in time and may not reflect subsequent updates by the appraisal district.
Each purchase covers one evidence packet for one property for the current tax year. All sales are final. Because our packets are digital goods generated instantly upon purchase, we do not offer refunds. If you experience a technical issue with your packet (e.g., missing pages, corrupted download), contact support@taxprotesttx.com and we will regenerate it at no charge.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, TaxProtestTx shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of our service or any outcome of your property tax protest. This includes, without limitation, any damages arising from reliance on the data, estimates, or forms we provide. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of TaxProtestTx shall first be addressed through good-faith negotiation. If unresolved within 30 days, disputes shall be resolved through binding individual arbitration in the State of Texas under the AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules of the American Arbitration Association. This arbitration agreement is governed by the Federal Arbitration Act (9 U.S.C. § 1 et seq.). You must be at least 18 years old to use TaxProtestTx.
The report format, analysis methodology, and original website content are our property. You may use the evidence packet for your personal property tax protest. You may not resell or redistribute our reports.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Any court proceedings shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in Montgomery County, Texas.
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Nought Labs LLC regarding your use of TaxProtestTx.
